You will work with a career professional who will invariably wear all four hats at different times as appropriate. For the sake of brevity we generally use career consultant as shorthand for all four descriptions.

As a first step, you would meet a professional career consultant to determine your specific needs and aspirations. At that meeting which is confidential, free and without obligation on either side, the career consultant (who would subsequently become your career consultant if the two of you decided to move ahead) would show you in some detail how the two of you would work together to identify the right career objective and then how to develop the necessary marketing tools to achieve it.

Common sense will tell you that it is essential for you to spend time (not just a quick five minute hello) with the individual that you would be working with and not just a salesperson before you make your decision. After all you are buying a personal service and not a commodity. It is a decision that you alone can make, do not be persuaded otherwise.
